We torchie’s do enjoy a good thrill from time to time – and getting a chance to work glass at the furnace is always a thrill.   The Frederick Hot Glass Society ventured Baltimore way to spend a day of glassmaking at McFadden Art Glass.  Pumpkins, paperweights, bowls, vases, drinking glasses and ornaments, each piece was unique and so much fun to watch.

Yes, you make your own piece with the helping hand of the instructor who ensures that the finished pieces aren’t a disappointment.  Their teaching system is super efficient, and effective for even the youngest of novice glassblowers. Classes are also available if you’re more interested in learning the processes and doing more of the work yourself.

Tim McFadden’s gallery and shop is a must see.  A large and gorgeous selection of art glass.  And the bathroom is particularly fantastic with the glass fountain sink and glass ceiling.  Yes, this is one time when you are allowed to take photos in the bathroom!

The bigger the group, the deeper the discounts, and awesome lunches are served right next door at the Glass Grill next door.  A memorable way to spend the day with your glassy buddies!
